Chocolate Soft Pretzels

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa

1 tsp instant coffee

3 tbsp boiling water

½ stick unsalted butter, room temp

¼ cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ coarse salt

1 large egg

2 cups flour

1 large egg yolk

1 tsp water

*coarse sanding sugar, for sprinkling

Stir cocoa and coffee powders into the boiling water in a small bowl until dissolved.

Put butter and granulated sugar in the bowl of mixer. Beat on medium speed until creamy. Mix in vanilla and salt. Reduce speed to medium low. Mix in egg, then cocoa mixture. Gradually add flour and mix until a smooth dough forms. Turns out onto a piece of plastic; pat into a square. Wrap dough and refrigerate until cold, about 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 325. Divide dough into 24 equal pieces. Roll into balls. Shape balls into 12 inch long ropes. (turds) Yes on your recipe card write shape into a turd. This is also a great time in the recipe to fake people out in your house. You may even want to take a bite of this and gross people out.

Shape into pretzels. Space 1 inch apart on cookie sheet.

Whisk egg yolk with water in a bowl. Brush cookies with egg wash. Sprinkle with sanding sugar Bake pretzels about 15 mins.
