Thrift Store Finds

SignitureI love snack plates like these. I already have some or I would have bought these. I don't know why I am drawn to them. It's not like I take these plates full of cookies and saucers of milk into my study at night?

I thought this couple were interesting. The cat, was waaaay more hideous in person. The woman, so cute. I love all things Amish. Except the going without electricity part. I wouldn't be able to blog, or straighten my hair.

Thrift Shop Finds

SignitureFor only $4 a month you can help sad pottery puppies find homes. Won't you please pick up the phone and call now?

Was there a time period when sad clown, dog, cat, angel, child figurines were all the rage?

For only $3.99 you too can own the works of William Freakin Shakespeare!

Isn't This Cute?

Signiture

It's a painting sold at Meijer's of all places, of a vintage pink typewriter! I want it but it doesn't fit the decor of any rooms in my home.

Goodwill Goodies

More Goodwill Goodies...

I loved this, I keep buying these things. But this one was $9.99! Too high a price for me for thrift store.

This cracked me up. I have no idea what it is? Pokemon something?

The marriage didn't last too much longer after the husband bought this for his wife for their anniversary. Hence the reason it is now at the Goodwill.

I wanted this! I was just afraid it wouldn't work. And the bowls were pretty scratched up inside. $24.99, good deal or not?

Goodwill Goodies

I have some more Goodwill Goodies for ya!

Just weird looking

For some reason merchandise with self proclamations crack me up. We have all seen the women wearing shirts that say "Too Hot For You" or "Sexy Mama". It takes a certain type of confidence to buy this type of merchandise, or delusion...either one.

Someone had depantsed this bear. Please, he is already at the Goodwill, let him have his dignity!

I have no idea. Have you ever seen things at the Goodwill and thought,"Who made that and why?"

Tune in next time for Goodwill Goodies

Goodwill Goodies

We took another trip to the Goodwill last night. It has been awhile since I have gone to any thrift stores. I was missing it. I hope I can make it to the Salvation Army on Wednesday this week for half off day.

How about a headless Genie? This can be yours for .99 cents. Store not responsible whether Genie can still give out 3 wishes or not. Buy at your own risk.

I loved this animal print lamp thingie. But it was $7. Yes $7. At a garage sale I can see spending 2 or 3 bucks on it. For $7 I can get brand new merchandise at Target.

Betty misses her family. They dropped her off at the psych ward and have never came back. She spends her time singing to her silverware and applying lipstick.

Sad puppy. If you took all of the sad puppies, angels, children and clown figurines that exist in all thrift stores you could build the bridge to nowhere.

Tune in next time for Goodwill Goodies!

Goodwill Goodies

So, I haven't been to any garage sales since it's winter and I don't get to go to the thrift store as much as I use to because I don't like to get the baby out in this cold. But last night I had to go to the Goodwill to try and find things that my daughter could wear in her school play as a costume. I thought I would share some of the gems that I seen.

First I will start with something that I thought was adorable.

I love creative ice cream sundae bowls/glassware. I don't know why, as I really don't eat alot of ice cream. These were by Oneida and selling for $1.99 a piece. The plates next to them looked like dessert plates that went with these also by Oneida selling for $2.99 a piece. This Goodwill is expensive and no sales or half off days.

Next Up...

I don't know why I took a picture of this. I think it's because whenever I see items like this, I wonder who bought it? Why did they buy it? I wish I could know the stories behind the items.

 This duck looks so sad

I had to take a picture of this because it still had the garage sale sticker on it for .10 cents but the Goodwill was selling it for $1.49. I guess if you snooze you lose.

This made me laugh. I think it's one of those plastic bag holders lol.

Thrift Store Find

So I went to half off day at Salvation Army. I got these Pfaltzgraff mugs for 20 cents a piece! I bought 6 but there was still some more. I don't have Pfaltzgraff dishes, just the canister set I shared here. There something about Pfaltzgraff products that just look and feel so well made.

I also bought clothes. I got a Calvin Klein dark denim jean jacket. It of course wasn't half off, because my mind directly goes to the things that are not on sale. I bought it anyway. I figure I can spluge and buy myself a jacket for $6 ;o)

Thrift Store Find and TT Honey winner

Pretty beat up huh?

I bought this at the thrift store. It's a mess, but it's okay with me that it's not perfect. I'm going to give it some TLC.

I couldn't resist it.

Here is the inside

The inside is in great condition and the card that came with it is still in there.

Thrift Store Find

They were selling cute little baby stinkers at the thrift store this week.

Actually what I got was the throw and the pillow. It was half off day..except for yellow tagged items. The throw was a yellow tagged item of course. I bought it anyway for $4. The pillow was $1. I also bought some Puma shoes for child #3 and a Limited Too top for her. I bought myself a very stylish Apt.9 (Kohl's brand) plum colored jacket and a Liz Claiborne comfy jacket type sweater. I got the baby Little Mermaid pj's and a christmas blanket sleeper. Also found her an adorable fake fur coat. The fur feels and looks just like teddy bear fur. Sooo cute and will go perfect with the hat I will be receiving from Priceless Creations (and you will get chance to win one!)

Here is more close up pic

I love fall leafs. I seem to gravitate towards paintings or home decor items that have leaves or trees. Is there something you gravitate towards?

Thrift Store Find

Totally funky I know, but I couldn't resist.

Okay first, I go to the thrift store on half off day with baby. I stopped by Starbucks on the way. I get there and there were no parking spaces. Parked far away in another parking lot and carried my 20 lb baby and my Starbucks. Get inside, no shopping carts left. So I didn't get to dig thru and find good stuff this time. But I did buy curtains for my new office redo (pics soon). And I bought this crazy 70's recipe box for $1.50. It has such classic recipes as...

Leg of Lamb with Anchovy Sauce

Chicken Livers and Eggs

Mousse of Chicken Livers

Prune Whip

Savory Salmon Tuna Loaf

Molded Shrimp Salad (the pic is going to give me nightmares)

I picked a few recipes I can use. I thought it would at least make just a good storage container for recipes.

This recipe box is called "McCall's Great American Recipe Card Collection"

Vintage Cookbook

From 1955. It must have been the cookbook that came with an Osterizer Blender. I love the picture of the ladies in the test kitchen.

I bought this at a garage sale that had so many amazing things. And everything had great prices. I just had very little money with me, and I don't want my husband to plan a thrift/garage sale intervention on me.

I paid $1 for this gem.

Thrift Store Finds

I went to the Salvation Army. Got the candlestick for $1.
The wall stickers were .35 cents a pack! You can use these things other than just on the wall.
Dip bowl and knife, brand new with spreader $1

I also bought a Justice dress for my daughter, a photo album, party invitations

I'm still looking for a wall hanging for my office redo (will post pics)

Thrifting Adventures

The table made up with the vintage tablecloth .50 cents, $1 Milk Glass Fruit bowl, and I paid $3 for 8 place settings of milk glass snack plates and cups.

Anchor Hocking Fire King piece fo $1.50 (small chip on side)

Large white platter (small chip) $1.50

Okay, so we went to the Goodwill. They have better clothes than the rest of the thrift shops and my tween girl wanted to check it out. I saw 3 home decor items I would have LOVED to have. Two of them would have been perfect for my dining room redo...but it was just too darn expensive ($7 bucks a piece!). Is that bad that the Goodwill is too expensive for me? Should I get help? A 12 step program maybe?

But the Salvation Army thrift store was great. Half off wednesdays! The prices were great.

Thrifting Adventures

Don't forget to enter my giveaway http://retrohousewiferemix.blogspot.com/2010/07/sense-prelude-5-review-and-giveaway.html

We went to garage sales, but there weren't many to choose from.

One NOTHING was priced, but I picked up a milk glass fruit bowl for $1.

The next garage sale EVERYTHING was overpriced. Bought nothing.

One garage sale, we didn't even stop because we realized we went to it last week! The woman is a Longaberger consultant so none of her baskets/pottery are cheap. She wants full value on them, so we kept driving.

It was just a big fail, so we stopped into a thrift store I had only been to one time, a few years back. They were kinda high on things but I did get the white milk glass there for a 1.69. It goes for about $15 bucks on Ebay. It is an Anchor Hocking Fire King piece.

I strolled down an aisle that had knick knacks and paintings. I spotted one painting that seemed so familiar to me. I knew I had seen it in a catalogue. I picked it up and looked on the back and sure enough it was Southern Living at Home. My friend had had one of those parties a couple years back! The painting is called Pear with Bee, by Meg Page. It was $6, so I put it back since I wasn't quite sure where I would put it.

I get to the cash register and ask if any days are half off (no) but she showed me today it's half off paintings, so I told her hold on while I ran back to get that painting.

$3 is a great deal. I do think I will be able to incorporate it into the dining room.

I couldnt get button to work but this post is linked at http://linda-coastalcharm.blogspot.com/

Thrifting Adventures

So I figured out around here, the thrift stores are cheap on Wednesdays (except for our Goodwill, it's EXPENSIVE).

We checked out one thrift store we had never been to because the whole store was 50% off. In fact the lady reminded me everytime I picked something up. Alright, great. But judging by the prices, they needed to take another 50% off that!

So then we went to the Salvation Army. I never knew that on Wednesdays all tags (except white) are half off, even housewares.

Much much better prices.

I bought all three of these pieces for a total of $1.15.

The middle piece is Napco white milk glass... this one in fact http://www.etsy.com/listing/42191872/vintage-napco-milk-glass-grapevine going for $14.50 on Etsy.

I bought it for .50 cents.

Yay me :o)
