Garage Sale Find

Yes I found a garage sale!
And it was within walking distance of my house.

I bought the watercan for $1. I thought my little ones would like to plant something in it. Notice it comes with little mini tools. Too cute.

I also bought a Longaberger basket for $10. It's a cool basket that came with a divider, to hold silverware. I was glad to get it because we have almost all holidays at my house. I haven't had anything to put silverware in.

The garage sale had alot of nice things but everything was just too expensive. This is something that irks me. It's a garage sale, you need to price things cheap. Some people price things way too high. Honestly at those prices I can bargain shop and buy things brand new on clearance. Who's with me? Can I get a what what?

Garage Sale Find

I have realized I love fall garage sales.

Most garage sales are in the spring/summer. But there are some major benefits to fall garage sales.

1. The weather is cool

I went to a couple of garage sales the other day. The leaves have changed color, it was a cool 70 degrees and it was beautiful!

2. You can finally sell your holiday decorations

You know at most garage sales people are trying to sell their Christmas and Halloween decorations. When you are sweating in 90 degree weather in July...Christmas and Halloween seem so far away. But with a later garage sale, you can buy these decor items and know you are going to use them soon.

I bought these ornaments (6 of them) for $1. Honestly, if it was June or July I might have just passed over them. But my mind is already planning ahead for the holidays! I decorate our tree with lots of snowflakes.

Garage Sale Find

Do you own any Vera Bradley bags? I have asked some other online friends and it seems the popularity is sort of geographical. In my area they are pretty hot item. I first got into them when I joined a Mom's Group and most of the mothers had one. If one of us got a new one, it would always start a conversation.

Well I ended up buying all three for $5 total! I had picked up the black and yellow one because I knew my oldest daughter loved that fabric. It's a small backpack which is what alot of teen and preteens carry. So I ask the price and they said $5 for all of them. Then one lady came over and said, "well not these they are someone else's", but hey that still left 3 Vera Bradley purses for $5 I'm not complaining. The lady next to me complained though. She muttered something underneath her breath about how she was looking at them. But I had asked price and jumped on it first. I just so happened to have had a $5 bill in my jean pocket too :o)   Since I let my oldest daughter have the black and yellow one, I let my other daughter pick one and she picked the blue one. So I guess I will keep the red lol.

Do you have a favorite fabric choice from Vera Bradley? I haven't bought a new one in forever!

Vintage Cookbook

From 1955. It must have been the cookbook that came with an Osterizer Blender. I love the picture of the ladies in the test kitchen.

I bought this at a garage sale that had so many amazing things. And everything had great prices. I just had very little money with me, and I don't want my husband to plan a thrift/garage sale intervention on me.

I paid $1 for this gem.

Vintage Tupperware

My latest garage sale find

Vintage Tupperware.

At the flea market near my house, one lady has a whole store of vintage tupperware and pyrex dishes. I could spend so much time there.

It seems every decade has beautiful items, except for the 70's. Lots of gold, brown, avacodo green and orange items that haven't quite come back into style. Maybe we learned a hard lesson that decade, lol. BUT there are starting to be adults now that remember these items as part of their childhood...and are willing to overlook their ugliness for that moment of nostalgia.

I, on the other hand, bought them to store powdered sugar and brown sugar ;o) Okay, maybe they do make me feel a little warm and fuzzy on the inside. But I do have my limits...no crocheted doll toilet paper cover, no owl wall hangings and no orange shag carpet.

Paid $1 each for these. There was a 3rd one but the lid wouldn't go on.

Vintage Cookbooks

I love buying vintage cookbooks. I like to think about the woman who owned them before me. I love the way the photography looks, and if there are ads inside...even better.

I picked up these 2 cookbooks for .25 cents a piece. I haven't had time to look through them yet, but hopefully I will find some good recipes to share.

Garage Sale Finds

Vintage-y Toys

The lady was asking $2 for the Sesame Street toy. I got her down to $1. The baby's occupational therapist was wanting us to work with her on pulling things so this is the perfect toy. You pull the string and it turns into a band. My brother had it as a baby, awwww. And the Flintstone book was .10 cents but when I went to go get the money the man said, "Just take it". So FREE. It was published the year I was born!

I loved the Flintstones. I had the Pebbles baby doll. She was my lovey. I remember my mother
telling me that people jokingly called me Pebbles as a baby (my natural haircolor has a reddish tint which I haven't seen in years shhhhh).

The garage sale with the Flintstone book also had Gem and the H0lograms and Fraggle Rock books as well. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they have kids around my age ;o)

I don't normally look for vintage toys items, but I couldn't resist these things.

I also stopped at one garage sale and bought alot of really nice, in great condition tops...all .25 cents a piece (mostly Old Navy) and a Justice t-shirt for my daughter for $1.

Garage Sale Finds

Wilton silver plate $3

Anchor Hocking baking dish $5

Painting (to go above my fireplace) $5

The first two finds were at an estate sale. They wanted a little higher prices than I really wanted to pay but I paid it anyway.

This picture doesn't do the painting justice. It's so pretty. I thought it was a great deal. Made up for my crazy spending at the first place. As you can see right now my fireplace is red. Is that bad feng shui? I don't know but it feels like it. I want everything light and airy now. So I'm painting it bright white as soon as I find the time ;o) Hoping to get it done as soon as school starts.

At one garage sale I seen Cabbage Patch Kids Cookie Jars! I didn't take a pic because we didn't stop for the garage sale. That was a blast from the past.
Also went to the Goodwill. I bought the baby a pair of shoes for a $1.50. While there an older lady in a wheelchair was trying to strong arm me into bringing my baby closer so she could kiss her! I have noticed alot of older people aren't as germ scared as we are now, but ummm gross. She finally scooted her wheelchair closer and grabbed the baby's foot and kissed the bottom of it! So that was a little weird, strange older lady...even though you told me I looked too young to have so many kids. You slightly redeemed yourself, well played.

Garage Sale Finds

Garage Sales have sure been slowing down around here. I don't know if it's from the hot weather or if it's always like this. We got out to a few though and I picked up odds and ends.

I got a photo album for .50 cents

Trivet .50 cents

Recipe books .50 cents

Cake knife and server .50 cents

and gold and white balls .10 cents a piece

The Pilsbury recipe book is from 1966. It is so cool to see the ads. They were having a cook off, where the grand prize winner won an avacado green stove. I loved seeing the official entry form. I love old cookbooks.

I found a home for the decorative balls. As you can see pictured above. Of course they went in milk glass! This is on my fireplace mantle right now.
